Tirana

Tirana is the biggest and most important city in the country. It was established in 1614 but became the Capital only in 1920. In addition to being the main city for all political activities, Tirana is considered to be the economic hub of the country. Culture and tourism also enjoy their fair share in the making of this vibrant city. Some of the main sites to see in Tirana are the Mosque of Et’hem Bey, which is located in the centre of Tirana; the Fortress of Petrela, which is located in the south of the city; the Fortress of Preza, which is declared a “Monument of Culture” and the Pyramid, which was built during the communist era. In Tirana you can learn more about the history of Albania by visiting the National Historic Museum, or the Archaeological Museum or the Gallery of fine arts. If you are a passionate of nature, Tirana offers you a great experience from the top of Mountain Dajti which overlooks the city. You can go there via an aerial tramway, also known as telepherique.
