Gjirokastra

Gjirokastra lies in the far south of Albania. It is entirely built on the versant of a mountain and has a huge castle that overlooks the entire city and beyond. It is also known as the city of stone because of its narrow streets which are paved with stones. Gjirokastra preserves a very exclusive architecture of ancient cities and as a consequence it has been declared a museum city.

Here you can go sightseeing in the narrow streets of the city and enjoy talking to the local vendors. You can also visit the huge castle and enjoy taking pictures from the top of its inner walls. Inside the castle there is the Museum of Weapons, which displays old weapons made and used by Albanians throughout history.
